It’s my daughter Clio’s ambition in life to be a musician. Specifically, she’s interested in being a rock star. Ergo, her favorite pajamas are her rock star pajamas: little shorts with pictures of various instruments on them and a t-shirt that says “rock and roll princess.”
I’d sort of forgotten about the princess part, and when she put the PJs tonight I pointed it out to her.
“Why doesn’t it say ‘rock and roll musician’?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” I said. “It is sort of dumb, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, because princesses don’t really play music,” she said. “They just be beautiful and stuff. They don’t really rock.”
“Some of them play music,” I said. “But not usually rock and roll, I don’t think.” (Just harpsichords and lyres, typically, right?)
She thought for a minute. “It should say rock and roll musician. Or just rock and roller.”
I told her I agreed. And we decided we’d just ignore the princess part.
Wise girl.
